The Film: Half Of A Yellow Sun

This is a historical film which is adapted from a great book of the same name. It was directed by Biyi Bandele. It was shot in English language, and it was shot in Britian and Nigeria. The film was adapted from Chimamanda Adichie's Half of A Yellow Sun. It stars great British and Nigerian actors: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Onyeka Onwenu, Genevieve Nnaji and a lot of other actors.

It was released in Nigeria on the 1st of August, 2014. That was after it had passed over series of censorship related problem. It was destined to be great film, with a budget of 8 million dollars. But all didn't go well, as the film didn't come out as expected, especially for the ones who have read the book. With the opinion of people who have watched the movie, and my own personal opinion, I have no other business than to say that the movie was below what we all expected.

The common mistake the film made was changing the story line and filtering out some important parts of the book; the characters in the movie lacked depth, and the dialogue in the movie was somehow unreal and unbelievable. There might have been a problem when it was shot that it wasn't shot well; I will say it was because Biyi Bandele directed his first film. The film was good anyway, so I will rate it 2.5/5.

Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian gave 2 out of 5 stars and also commented that "there is a heartfelt quality, but unfortunately the film is often stately and sluggish with some every daytime soapy moments of emotional revelation. At other times, it looks more like a filmed theatrical piece."

It is a great film nevertheless, and you need to watch it now, it is out there in the cinema. When you watch it or if at all you have watched it, come here and feel free to rate and critic the film.
