The Cashew Tree: The Value and Relevance




The cashew tree is a tropical tree that produces the cashew fruit and the seed. The botanical name is anacardium occidentale. Cashew tree grows as high as 46ft, but the common ones in Nigeria are the cashew trees which grow to around 20ft to 40ft. The dwarf cashew tree is the best economically, and it saves more time.

The cashew seed is very useful. Nigeria exports a large quantity of cashew seeds every year. Cashew seeds can be roasted and the enclosed eatable part eaten and enjoyed by the consumer, humans. Cashew fruity juice which is usually the color of yellow, green, red and other colors can be processed into cashew juice, other forms of drink, cheese and butter.

The shell of the cashew can also be processed into lubricants and paints. The wood is good for furniture and also good for cooking. Cashew is native to Brazil, and it is now widely cultivated in Nigeria and used in Nigeria.

Cashew is edible and it can also be used as a raw material for the production of drinks and other by products. The wood from the tree is good enough for the making of any type of furniture. Cashew is not only edible and nutritious, it is also medicinal.

MEDICINAL VALUES:
1. MALARIA: Boil the bark and take half a glass thrice daily. This is good for resistant malaria.
2. DIABETES: Cashew bark is scientifically confirmed to be very good for diabetes. Boil the bark and take a glass four times daily.
3. DYSENTRY: Boil bark and leaves together and take half a glass thrice daily.
