Why is Culture Different?

Culture is people's ways of life. Culture are the set of behaviors of a particular society; the norms of that society. Every society has culture, this is because culture is the root and the stronghold of society. Culture makes society work. Without culture, the lives of people would be brutish, short and nasty.

But how come different societies have different cultures? The culture of Europe is different from that of Africa and Asia, but there is a theory that posits that all humans originated from the same person, then how come cultures are different?

One of the reason I will write is evolution and adaptation. Even if we believe in the creation myth in the Christian bible, we will agree that people spread on earth and had to survive anywhere they were, and they could do this by inventing cultures which would help them survive in that environment.

Another reason is the spread of humans and migration. If a part of a community migrates to a new place, there is wide possibility that the immigrants would abandon their culture or change some norms so they can adapt well in their new environment. Most times, every aspect of the former culture is dropped including language.

Another reason is revolution. There are some societies who are bold enough to drop the culture which does not favor them for a more favorable one. So even if a town has the same culture and a part of this town feels it is not good, there will be a change and the culture will no longer be the same. People like the Igbos have cast away their gods and some culture before the advent of colonialism.

Another reason is influence. Cultures borrow from other cultures, and sometimes, the cultures involved are quite different and far apart. When this happens, there is more diversification of cultures.

Cultures are different and it seems better that way. There is a say that there is joy in diversity, this diversity of cultures have helped the world in so many ways and it has made people to appreciate people's culture.
