INTERSTATE MOVEMENT RESUMES: PEACE MASS TRANSIT AND IFESINACHI PROPOSES CHEAPER FARES
The Federal Government on the 1st of July mandated that there could be interstate movement among the states of the federation. This is in accordance with the gradual unlocking of the country which they had started in the first week of May. If it could be recalled, then it would be stated that one of the actions that was not taken is allowance of interstate movement. There was movement within states immediately after the lockdown, but no movement outside the state.
On the 27th of April, Buhari made a speech calling for the unlocking of the country on the 4th of May, and it happened as he said, even though most people were not sure of it yet. Some Nigerians started work on that day and there was gradual movement and easing of lockdown. However, most Nigerians were not comfortable with the interstate lockdown. They wanted to be traveling, and as at that they did not allow it hinder them, they still travelled, albeit illegally.
On the 1st of June, movement opened in a big way and interstate lockdown was lifted. It is following this order, that Peace Mass Transit and Ifesinachi Transport Company have urged the public to come and board their buses to whatever destination they are heading to. Peace Mass Transit offered to charge the same price as they used to charge and to carry 50% capacity of what they used to carry. This is a very good initiative. People are encouraged to travel and patronize these companies.
