PERSONAL THOUGHTS ABOUT CHIEF SAM MADUKA ENTREPRENEURIAL UNIVERSITY, EKWEGBE, NSUKKA

Sam Maduka, CEO of Peace Mass Transit recently bought a large area of land in Ekwegbe, Nsukka area. The land is so large that it can be stated to be at least half the size of Nsukka campus of the University of Nigeria or even at the same size. The land according to a person close to me is so large that if you are told to use catapult to reach its limit you cannot do it. This is the beauty of capitalism, and the tragedy as well; a man is buying a land big enough to house a village and some persons cannot boast of a land to call their own.

It is laudable that Chief Maduka intends to build an entrepreneurial university on the land, the first of its kind in Nigeria. However, what happened to a free trade zone or an industrial estate or a tech hub or an auto producing estate? All these things are not left for the government alone. And do not come and tell me I should not tell a man how to spend his money? Entrepreneurial university is good, but then what about the real actions and experience and the heartbreaks and the sadness and the success? Reason why the Igbo apprenticeship system that has been jeopardized now was such a success was in the act of practice and knowledge.

Now. In Nsukka, we are focused on book, book, book; the world is going skills and innovation. That you have a PhD in Business Administration does not mean you can successfully run a business. Chief Maduka, permit me to say, I am a small boy, who knows nothing and may be haven’t started life. What you did is still laudable. Deje!

Anyway, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was there at the groundbreaking ceremony of laying the foundation of the school. Chief Maduka, his lookalike mother that gave him the money to buy his first buses and the rest of the family are there with him. The beauty of money. Kpau!
