Lassa fever and Ebola: The Similarities
Ebola and Lassa fever were all discovered in Africa.
Ebola was discovered in Congo, while Lassa fever was first diagnosed in
Nigeria. The issue is that both diseases originate from Africa, and Africans have
been the victims of these diseases.
They are both viral diseases, fatal viral disease. They
are spread by mammals to men who easily die of these diseases. Rats are the
carriers of Lassa fever, and bats and other mammals are the carriers of Ebola. These
carriers through different means infect the humans.
They have the same range of days of incubation. The time
it takes for the virus to act after infection is similar. While for some
victims, it comes early, for others, it comes late. The both diseases are
communicable.
They cause bleeding when they get to the critical
stage. And this bleeding is usually serious. There other symptoms include vomiting,
lost of appetite and high fever. These viruses can survive in the body fluids
of a patient even after 21 days of treatment and discharge. The both of them
are deadly, and there is no known cure for them. However, Lassa fever is not
fatal like Ebola, and it can be managed at the early stage.
Hygiene is the best form of prevention for these
diseases. Clean your environment, take care of yourself, watch what you eat and
always wash your hands with sanitizer.
