Should Buhari be excused for the “Budget of Yams”?
Critics of Buhari have
finally seen what they can hold on to: a material they can employ to criticize the
government of Buhari. This 2016 national budget has been trending in the media
for over one month now. First, it was not found in the National Assembly
complex after it was submitted, and then, the frightening irregularities in the
budget were exposed. This made Nigerians wonder what sort of budget it was, and
if this budget represented the promised change by the government in power.
Buhari’s body movement and
with what is happening in the media, it is believed Buhari was deceived by
people who some of his supporters call the mafia. It is ironical that President
Buhari who insists that he is battling corruption presents a budget riddled
with heart wrenching corruption. It is even estimated that the budget for the
state house this year is greater than that of the former president’s. Critics
have termed this budget, the budget of yams.

Since it seems like
Buhari was short changed in this occurrence, should he be excused? But should
he be excused? After all, he is the president, and the president should be
accountable for all that happens in his government whether good or bad. If the
irregularities in the budget wasn’t exposed and the budget ended up getting passed
by the National Assembly, the monies that would have been misappropriated would
have been blamed on who, the finance minister? The president answers for all,
and he should know all that happens under his watch, he shouldn’t let people
play on his ignorance.
So, what do you think,
should he be excused from the budget of yams?
