The Zika Fever: The History and the Effects
The Zika Fever is a viral disease, a member of the
virus family Flaviviridae and genus Flavivirus transmitted by daytime
mosquitoes. The fever’s name comes from a forest in Uganda, where the research
was first carried out on monkeys and rats. The fever had existed in monkeys
before the first man with the virus was discovered. It has been in existence
since the 1940s when the research on the fever began, so, it is not a new fever
or disease.
There have been outbreaks of Zika fever across the
world especially in the American continent. It is similar to malaria fever, yellow
fever, dengue fever and West Nile viruses. It has no vaccine or drug for now, but
its mortality rate is low, it rarely kills its victim. It can be cured
naturally by rest. This disease cannot only be transmitted by daytime
mosquitoes, but also through sex and from mother-to-unborn child.
There are two lineages of the Zika virus, the African
and Asian lineage. According to research, the Zika virus widespread in American
is from the Asian lineage. Patients have been diagnosed with this disease in
different countries and continent.
The symptoms include mild headache, rash which heals
after the sickness goes, and some other symptoms similar to that of malaria. And
because of it is milder than malaria; it disturbs the patient for three days
before it heals, most at times, without the help of drug. For prevention,
reside in a clean environment where mosquitoes do not breed and are not common.
Clean up the environment and dispose all that can breed mosquitoes.
