Domestic and Personal Use of Groundnut
Groundnut is a root crop that is grown all over the
world. In Nigeria, it is mostly grown in Northern Nigeria. In the 1960s,
groundnut was the major item of export in Northern Nigeria. This groundnut was
a source of revenue for the northern region and Nigeria at large. We will not
discuss the history of groundnut or the industrial use of groundnut, instead we
will discuss the domestic and personal use of groundnut. For the domestic and
personal use of groundnut, Groundnut is most at times eaten as part of a meal
or simply as a snack.
Groundnut can be eaten raw, cooked or fried. Most
people seem to prefer the fried one which is affordable and widespread in
Nigeria. It is mostly used as a snack in Nigeria. Groundnut can be taken alone,
or with bread, garri, peanuts and so on.
Groundnut contains magnesium which reduces the
effects of sore throat and difficulty in swallowing. Its major content is fat
and oil which gives humans heat and energy. It also contains protein which
helps in the repair of body tissues. It supplies nitrogen to humans. And also,
Groundnut acts as a source of roughages which helps in the body metabolism. The
last but not the least benefit is that it brings families closer, this is
because when members of a family eat groundnut together the family tie becomes
stronger.
